“Luxury hotel in the middle of a wild rainforest”
+It’s no doubt one of the best hotels in entire Malaysia and so I can only compare it to the other best, like O&O (Mandwrin oriental now), Taaras, Oberoi, Sipadan Kapalai and similar. The room was amazing, not only comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, but also it had those extra touches like Malaysian encyclopaedia, bath candles and so on. So basically staying in the hotel it’s an experience in its own. The area is fantastic, a real rainforest with wild animals, such as calugo and mouse deer. There is also a bit of a coral reef, which is a rarely in langkawi. Architecture, man made features such as a toilet with the frog pond, a buggy ride thru the forest , all add to the ultimate experience.
−There are unfortunately a few things that comparing to other 5 star hotels I didn’t like. Firstly, my non refundable booking started with a harsh email stating that if I don’t present the same card I booked with at the check in, I can be denied staying. What rule is that, when the room had been already paid! Also, I find it wasn’t the best marketing tool to make you feel welcomed. Secondly, my daughter woke up with a rash, all her upper body was covered with something that looked like bites/pimples, and also itchy areas of something that looked like hives. We are no new to the jungle and hiked thru Taman Negara or Endau romping, but never had anything like that. What upset me though was how dismissing receptionist was. He gave us a some calming lotion and said that if it’s not better we need to call a doctor from the centre of the island. I got an impression that it’s a very common occurrence and the staff are used to that. Then get an in-house nurse, or someone who can at least listens and assures you it’s nothing serious, I am sure for the price hotel charges it’s very viable. +The property is 33 years but kept so well. Our rainforest pool villa looks brand new. We love the location of the property which is in the rainforest and far away from the other hotels.

“Still a good place. But not as good as previous 3 times experiences, staffs is much less responsive than previous.”
+Good place. Good environment. Good food from The Pavillion and good pizza from the beach club.
−The facilities is old and lack of maintenance. The wooden floor in the room is cracked and sharp, dangerous for kids to walk around. The 3 pin plug in the room is malfunction even though have fixed by technician once.

“A Treat at the Best Hotel of My Life”
+First of all, the location is wonderful. Surrounded by the ocean and the jungle, the setting was very relaxing. I was also deeply impressed by the staff’s warm hospitality. I was very impressed by how proudly they carried out their work. Furthermore, everything I tried for dinner,both Thai and Malay dishes,was delicious.
−There's nothing in particular, but since the activities are popular, I recommend booking them when you make your hotel reservation. I forgot to book in advance, so there were some activities I couldn't participate in.

+Love everything about this place. Rooms are tastefully appointed. Incredible breakfast spread, but what makes The Datai stand out is the warmth and hospitality of its staff who go out of their way to anticipate your smallest needs. Love the small gestures such as the chocolate pralines in the evening, complimentary fruit & ice cream by the beach and valet parking. What I enjoyed most about this trip was the sighting of local wildlife right at our balcony. Will be back soon!
−If I had to be really picky, I would say that the main pool area is too exposed and isn't very comfortable to lounge around in the afternoons. Some shade would be perfect. Light and fan switches can be quite finicky.
