“Wonderful location, but disappointing value for money”
+The Old Hall Hotel occupies an excellent position in the centre of Buxton and is a building of considerable historic interest. My bedroom was perfectly acceptable, and breakfast was satisfactory, with a good buffet selection and generous pots of tea.
−Unfortunately, the hotel doesn't live up to its historic setting or the price charged. At approximately £342 for two nights, I expected considerably better. The communal areas were tired and unattractive, with dirty carpets, creaking and uneven floors, and a general air of neglect. There appeared to be very few staff around. Scaffolding was erected outside the building, but there was no obvious evidence of refurbishment inside. Sadly, the hotel's wonderful location and historic character cannot compensate for its tired condition and poor value for money. It needs substantial investment to justify its room rates.

−The room was a sad disappointment. I had stayed before and always had generous rooms with a lovely view of the park. This time it was a tiny room with the window sill 5ft up, and felt like the Victorian servants quarters.

+The hotel is in a great position in Buxton
−We visited several times over the years but the hotel is in poor condition now. The rooms are dark and need redecorating. It feels rundown. Reception area is grim. Breakfast was reasonable but cold, eggs were awful, no brown bread, or jam or yogurt, or fresh fruit. It was really unappetising . Tables were not made up so we had to get cutlery from other tables. Really disappointed as last time we went we were told it was being upgraded. Not worth £100 a night.

+As history buffs, we requested to stay in the room Mary Queen of Scots was held in during her capture, this was not a problem, we got that room and were delighted with it.

+Location was excellent. Parking was easy if you could get a space on the public parking that was available on the street , cheap with the hotel.
−Thought that communal areas were shabby , need of updating. The reception area needs redoing aswell , not obvious. Someone just sitting behind a desk , behind a window . Communication difficulty through glass if you are average height.
+The room was spacious and the beds very comfortable. Lovely bathroom with walk in shower and roll top bath, breakfast was included which was buffet style would recommend the Old Hall Hotel especially if you are going to the opera house which is just a short walk away.

+Always use the Old Hall in Buxton for the convenience of location and quite an interesting stay in such a historic building. Spacious rooms and usually with a good view over the park.
−Currently covered in scaffolding, but that's unavoidable due to roofing work. The only small downside would be a lack of staff in the breakfast room but otherwise a nice breakfast.
