−upgraded to a superior room which gave us a free parking space which was nice The view from window was disappointing looking at fire escape and back of another hotel which spoilt it For that reason it felt like a budget room when booking it feels like you are booking an independent hotel not a big chain hotel best western!

“Very comfortable mini break”
+We were very impressed with the friendly staff and our room in the lodge. Breakfast was nice and plentiful.

−Internet didn't work in our room in the annex. Lift unreliable failed several times in 3 days.

−The hotel was okay, I would stay again for a short stay but I felt the hotel was tired and in need of an upgrade however I recognise this would effect the price.

“The lodge is okay for a weekend stay on a budget.”
+The best aspect of the stay was the comfort of the bed. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The location was great. Only a 10 minutes walk into the town or the lower gardens. Parking worked out well.
−Unfortunately, on the second night I took back the duvet before sleeping and noticed that the sheets were mouldy. However, once I reported the issue a member of staff brought new sheets. The lodge is an older building and detached from the main hotel. It looked run down, dated and old. But, was satisfactory for a budget weekend stay. Staff did there jobs but were not particularly welcoming, warm or friendly.

−The room was a little tired in the annex. The system asked if we wanted to upgrade but I wasn’t sure from what to what do that could be better explained.

+I liked the staff breakfast
−Our accommodation was spacious, comfortable and generally very good. However, the bathroom was disappointing. The bath was blocked, the water would not drain properly, and the shower pressure was extremely poor. The service at the swimming pool was also disappointing, as there was no staff member at the pool reception. We needed towels to use the pool, so we went to the main reception for assistance. Unfortunately, the gentleman working there was on the phone and ignored us for around 10 minutes. Even after that, he continued his conversation before eventually asking, “Do you need towels?” He was clearly aware that we were waiting, and this made us feel ignored and unwelcome. Overall, although the accommodation itself was spacious and good, the bathroom facilities and the poor customer service significantly affected our experience. We found the situation particularly unpleasant and believe that better maintenance and more attentive service would make a big difference.
