「Nice but probably won't stay there again.」
+Convenient location near train station.
−Room in New section added to a restored hotel. Room was small no fridge or microwave. In hotel restaurant had good food but pricy. You have to climb a steep hill to get to lobby. You can enter a lower level parking garage and take an elevator up 4 floors but you aren't told about that until you check in.

「Absolutely everything was decorated so lovely.」
+The breakfast was just sooo good!! I ordered out of my comfort zone, and it turned out absolutely terrific! They went above and beyond, and it was served on the plate attractively.

「Love that historic feel」
+As old as the building is, you can tell it is well-kept while keeping that historic feel. I appreciated the pictures of local history in the hallways. The bed was comfortable and the spa tub was amazing.
−The light in the bathroom was goofy. There was no way to use the bathroom at night without the light shining in the whole room and waking your partner. There was no door to shut to the sink area to block the light, and the toilet/tub area was on the same light switch. A microwave in the room would have been helpful. Just minor things. I would definitely stay again.

「Good not great but excellent location」
−Overall cost to value wasn’t there . I do have a high bar for cleanliness. Despite old hotel there was dish all over in our room, vanities, trim, the chairs felt moist when sat in. Same with towels.

「Loved the character of the St. James Hotel & restaurant. Many cute shops within walking distance」
+We loved the history of the hotel and walking around and looking at all the beautiful rooms and old furniture. The Scarlet restaurant was fabulous and right in the hotel. We were surprised with a free dessert for our anniversary which is why we came to the hotel to celebrate. The buttercream raspberry cake is out of this world! So many cute shops all within walking distance and also a cute shop right in the hotel. We appreciated the underground parking for our vehicle which made unloading so much easier as the door to the lobby was right there. I highly recommend this hotel as a great place to just get away even for a night. You will feel like you are being pampered in an amazing historic hotel. You have to dine at the amazing Scarlet kitchen, the food was top notch! We will definitely be back!!
−Our bed had like a plastic sheet on the mattress which made it feel very damp. We just slept on top of the blanket and it helped a little. We did happen to get the smallest room in the hotel which was fine but the bathroom was really small and the toilet was right up to the wall when you sat down. It was a bit challenging for my husband who has had 2 knee replacements. We were also awaken to a false alarm at 6:50am that went off twice and we kept getting a busy signal at the front desk to find out what was happening. So unfortunately we weren’t able to sleep in and enjoy a cup of coffee in our room. We just packed up left early😥. But, the Hanisch Bakery is right across the street if you want to choose from 100s of fresh baked goodies and great coffee!
