“Looks better in photos than in reality - disappointing stay”
+The place is nice and quiet.
−Technically, the apartment looks like in the pictures,technically, because once you are there, it is a lot less cozy than it seems. The facilities are outdated. You wouldn't want to use the cutlery and kitchenware without cleaning them first, which gives a very bad impression and makes you doubt the cleanliness of everything. While we were there, they had issues with the water supply. That meant there was barely any water pressure at the taps or in the shower; additionally, we had cold water only. Given that the owners/hosts live right next door, there was no interaction between them and us. It’s usually in situations where things go wrong where you can shine, but they probably just didn't feel like it. If you like it clean and cozy, this is not your place to go.

+The view. The house is lovely and spacious.
−The owners should not have rented out the house we were in, with a group booking in the other houses. The group played loud music (until nearly midnight on Sat), and they took over every communal space. The kitchen is very poorly equipped. There was no closed braai grid available even though we chceked this before arrival. The gentlman who welcomed us upon arrival appreared drunk. He was unhelpful during our stay.

“Stay for 2 days. 1 is too little to enjoy the canoes in either direction of the river.”
+Breakfast wasn't included. But then again no coffee or tea and Milk wasn't provided for either. Nothing at all, so arrive knowing you are 100% left to your own devices.
−The basics wouldve been appreciated. A few tea bags. Coffee. Sugar. The focus was on selling us Firewood and charging R120.- to heat the outside tub.

+The beautiful location and the accommodation was very nice. Grunters pub 2kms up the road was great and served us with excellent food. Recommend the steak trinchado, to die for! We hope to return here in the future. The pool house apartment is stunning.
−We were apprehensive of the 47kms down the dirt road, but it was ok, and well worthwhile when we arrived at Tides River Lodge!

−Beschwerliche Anreise, 50 km Schotterpiste von Bredasdorp kommend Der letzte kurze Weg zum Hause ohne SUV fast unmöglich Das Haus war sehr warm und ohne Ventilator wäre die Übernachtung nicht möglich gewesen Das Wasch und Duschwasser ist kein Trinkwasser und stammt aus dem anliegenden Fluss und ist bräunlich. Das Duschwasser ist aber geheizt. Zum Zähneputzen und Kochen ist eine Gallone Frischwasser bereit gestellt. Keine Verpflegungsmöglichkeiten am Ort, den Bildern zu urteilen war eine Verpflegung vor Ort angeboten.Alles in allem eine sehr einfache Ausstattung zu einem doch hohem Preis für örtliche Verhältnisse und überhaupt nicht gerechtfertigt. Zum Vergleich haben wir in Kapstadt Waterfront weniger gezahlt mit hochwertiger Ausstattung.

“Lovely comfortable private house in an amazing setting.”
+Beautiful setting. Staff really helpful. Boathouse was really comfortable and private. Good access to the nature reserve. Road too and from Tides was much less bumpy than anticipated - so much better than alot of roads in Africa. Grunters and the shop were both really good places to eat/ stock up.
−Small suggestion - a couple of wine glasses and a corkscrew in the kitchen

+Der Hausmeister war sehr freundlich und hilfreich! Schöne Lage am Fluss.
−Wir haben heute in der TRL in Malagas übernachtet. Mit 130 Euro war die Übernachtung mehr als doppelt so teuer wie alle anderen 13 Übernachtungen auf der Garden Route. Wir hatten die schönen Bilder bei Booking.com im Internet gelesen und wollten uns etwas Besonderes gönnen. Leider war dies eine grosse Enttäuschung: In einem Nebensatz war die Schotterpiste erwähnt worden. Tatsächlich waren es 45 km pure Schotterpiste mit grossen Steinen und Schlaglöchern, die für einen normalen Mietwagen absolut nicht geeignet ist!! Dementsprechend mussten wir sehr langsam fahren und brauchten mehr als doppelt so lang wie die von Google Maps angegebene Zeit. In der Unterkunftsbeschreibung steht: “Restaurant in der Nähe”. Tatsächlich hat während der Woche nur der Grunters Pub bis 20 Uhr geöffnet. Allerdings sollte die Piste dorthin keinesfalls nachts befahren werden! Das muss man bedenken und sich reichlich mit eigenen Lebensmitteln eindecken, insbesondere da die Unterkunft kein Frühstück anbietet. Wir hatten das Boat House gemietet, welches schon beim Reinkommen beissend nach Chemikalien stank, da sich unter dem Apartment ein Gerätechuppen mit Farben, Ölen etc. befindet.
