“They overcame problems beyond their control to ensure we had a good stay”
+The thing was, lots of things went badly, but they weren't all the fault of the hotel. And they did make up for it! Firstly, when we arrived, we learned that there had been an accident and the sauna was closed. That's all we were told, and we thought there might have been some kind of tragedy, so didn't want to pry. But we'd chosen the hotel because it had a sauna and we wanted to have a chat in the sauna, which is sort of our thing, before drinks and dinner. It would have been good if they'd told us about the accident (which we later learned involved the fire sprinklers and flooding and nothing to do with a tragedy in the swimming pool or sauna, thank goodness, although for the hotel, it was a disaster) before we arrived. We had been in communication. I'd mentioned the sauna. But they upgraded our room and it was a lovely room, and the breakfast was very good, and then they rang and said we could use the facilities in the Hodson Bay. Which we did, after we checked out the next day. We really enjoyed that. So thanks all round and I hope you get back to full strength soon!
−Couple of small things: service slow in the bar! We were told to sit down and then waited ... and it wasn't very busy. But the staff may well have been distracted understandably by the flooding and all the trouble it had no doubt caused. Also, of course, there are different nationalities and they may have different ideas of what's normal. Also no bar snacks seems a bit weird in a bar. We would have loved some olives or breadsticks with the wine. As it was, we had to order a portion of sweet potato fries (which were nice but then we had to ask for sauce or condiments, which would normally be brought out with the fries, no?). It wasn't a problem, really, and overall I would rate the staff highly personable and ready to help.

“Nice but disappointing because of the unavailability of early bird food options and no spa/gym and spa options”
+We book every year for my mums birthday to use the pool and spa facilities. Unfortunately this year they had an unexpected issue of which we were not made aware by booking.com or the hotel so we arrived with limited options.
−The lack of use of the pool and spa.

+Emergency evacuation didnt get to stay. So cant rate the hotel. Was rang at 10pm the night before -had booked for four people we werent offered any other accomdation.i understand it was an emergency and an act of god. And the money we paid will be given back in due course. Thankfully we got accomdation elsewhere. But the weeknd ended costing me 800 euro. And thank god we werent in the hotel when it happened. We were very lucky to escape this disaster. Hope staff and all people that were staying there are ok. In fairness it coulnt be helped and the lady on thd phone was very professional ....Looking forward to getting my money back. Thanks tina

“High quality hotel in the heart of Ireland”
+Good location with free parking, good size room with comfortable bed. Reasonably priced restaurant and good breakfast.
−Shower lacked power and general water pressure seemed to be problem. Whilst the bed was comfortable the pillows were bulky and firm.

“Great place to stay! Central to the whole country.”
+Centralized in the center of Athlone. Parking free with validation, which is accessed below the building with a shopping mall. You really don’t even need to go outside to get to parking garage or shopping mall. Plus it’s very clean and comfortable, staff extremely friendly. Breakfast buffet is exceptional!
−Really not anything. Stay here, for a few days every time we visit Ireland.
