“2 nights in the Youth Shack”
+Good value for money, central location, friendly staff, ease of entry, good pool, safe room. Nice ladies bathroom (shared). Beds were comfy and place was clean. Fridge in the room. Zero alcohol policy in rooms. Good set of rules to keep behaviour under control.
−Air con was very noisy but at least it drowned out the noise from the nearby bars a bit. Some parts a little shabby and some people were a bit noisy. The showers were a bit of a pain, having those high heads, water everywhere.

+Location was good. Very noisy / busy, but close to CBD.
−Filthy facilities, smelly room, extremely busy. Half the showers and toilets don’t work , instead of fixing them they just have plastered up out of order signs. Lockers are tiny. Staff were very mixed. Some pleasant, others extremely rude and unhelpful. Was cheapest place in Darwin , but when I saw the condition of the place and the service, it is definitely still a massive rip off! Could never recommend this place to anyone.

“Friendly staff”
+The people who work there are very friendly. I accidentally booked a mixed room, instead of female only and when I realised and told them that I wouldn't feel safe staying in a room with men (there weren't any women-only rooms available anymore), the Irish girl at reception made an exception and let me stay in a room where long-term people stay. Thank you for that!!
−The showers could be better. The water is warm, but I dont like the shower head. It's a rain shower, but that means everything gets wet, and you can't take a shower without getting your hair wet. A little bit less of a party hostel compared to Mom's, but I still feel like it's a big group of (French) people that stay there that mostly/only connect with each other. But then again, is there really a place in Australia where that's not the case?

“Passable, but would stay elsewhere next time.”
+Great location, and facilities were clean-ish.
−We booked a private room and my god did it stink. We were hit with a wave of BO smell as soon as we walked in the room, and even with the aircon, windows, we tried everything - we couldn't get rid of the smell for our entire stay. Was pretty horrid if I'm honest. The hallways and common areas were pretty filthy but given the amount of people staying there to be expected I guess.
