1.0“Couldn't get into my room, didn't stay.”
+Umm... the building looks cool? I ended up not staying the night. Entire experience was horrible.
−I was asked to text them 2 hours before arrival. I was about 2 hours away so texted when I left home. Got a response while driving: "You'll need to check in at this different location, where our office is." So that added to my arrival time, I would have left earlier if I had known. At check in, I was given an external door code and two numbers to call if there were any maintenance issues. It looked like they didn't even have my reservation at first, but they eventually gave me the name of my room, and said "Your room is unlocked and your key is inside." I went to Upjohn House and found: the external door unlocked and no staff present. Lights were all off. I had to use my phone flashlight to peer at the little plates on the doors to find my room. (The photo is taken with iPhone's night mode.) I tried to open the door and the doorknob came off in my hand. The door was locked. I called both maintenance numbers and was directed to voicemail (no greeting, just "xxx-xxx is not available, leave a message.") On my way out I saw a third maintenance number scrawled on the door, I called that and got another voicemail. I eventually got my money back, but it took multiple phone calls. Not happ

6.0+The room was beautiful
−Needs more tension to details. More toilet paper in the rooms and a trash can. It is not sound proof rooms and the breakfast should be at the upjohn even if it's something little. They also need a ice maker .

7.0“A charming stay in a great location.”
+The home was charming and the proximity to downtown was excellent. The staff at the castle were amazing. I received a call before my arrival asking if I wanted to switch to the castle which has a couple open rooms. Until that moment I had not realized the Upjohn was a satellite property without breakfast or staff. You have to go to the castle for breakfast. We chose to stay at the Upjohn, but I think we would have enjoyed the castle better. The breakfast was very sweet (literally) but tasty! However, they seemed to be short staffed as the dining room was left mostly a mess from previous diners.
−The tub was also charming though using it to shower created a lot of water in the room. The windows were covered with heavy drapes that could not be tied back to allow natural light and the view to be appreciated. It would have been nice to have toilet paper holders in the bathrooms and a small towel bar in the room or even by the sink and several lightbulbs were burned out. We never saw another guest or the staff person we assumed was in residence downstairs. It was unclear if we were allowed in the kitchen space. The website says there was a shared kitchen but it seemed the door was locked? The main door was left unlocked most of the time which was disturbing. It was a shame there was only one public room to gather/relax in as the original dining room and parlor have been converted to bedrooms.

3.0“Would not stay again and will not recommend to others”
+There were some interesting antique details to the actual house
−It was not clean; linens were stained and dirty and the overall state of the property was downtrodden and not like the photos. The adjacent room had zero soundproofing so we could hear every detail of the people next door including them using the toilet. The tv remote didn’t function properly and the tv kept turning on by itself until we unplugged it and then I got shocked by the outlet. Overall didn’t feel comfortable. Also not disclosed that you have to go to a property a mile away to check in; pool/hot tub facilities were laughable.

4.0“Run don’t stay”
+Location was great and bed was comfy.
−Upon entering property I thought we were at the wrong address. There was a backhoe or some sort of tractor sitting in the front yard, old furniture with dirty rags and charcoal sitting on the entry porch with garbage. As we went to park behind house there was garbage and junk everywhere. I thought we were at a run down trailer park! Walking Up to enter there was a sign on door to drive to another house to check in so we were like ok. We had no choice but to stay. The interior of the house is beautiful however it is not well kept. Dirty brooms and old mattress and an array of junk leading to our room. Room was nice but shower did not work and had to wash off in the sink for a wedding! This property could be amazing but needs some major clean up!

5.0+Location was excellent and facilities were unique, historical, and eclectic. Nate the groundskeeper was great.
−Room was unclean, communication with reception was challenging, and the offsite breakfast location and unusual bathroom configuration could have been better communicated.

1.0“Bad”
−They promised complimentary breakfast, but when we went to breakfast there wasn’t any. I couldn’t get a hold of staff on the number they provided.
