+Private bath, ryokan meals and service were the standouts this stay. The accommodation was clean and well managed for an older building, the staff were attentive and some spoke English. As the hotel is a bit of a walk from the station, those who have luggage should request for the bus. Both meals provided were exceptional, every dish was delicious and carefully explained.

“Beautiful facility inside but not the greatest location or outside appearance. Excellent dining experience.”
+Beautiful rooms and views. The food experience was spectacular.
−A little dirty and unkempt outside. The view out to the river was offset by the dirty grounds behind the hotel

+The staff were really welcoming. Breakfast and dinner beautifully presented but only Japanese food....which can be a challenge especially for breakfast for some westerners. Onsen was great

“The best room of our japan tour, great hiking higher up the valley, but the onsen valley in the town has been disfigured”
+Wonderful room with private onsen bath, friendly staff and great food
−Needs a bit of care in some places. The town overall is disappointing with many ugly buildings detracting from the natural beauty

+The hotel staff was incredibly kind and welcoming and the service was immaculate from the first step into the hotel. I got accompanied and explained everything from dinner and breakfast, to the use of the onsen and rotenburo. We mostly conversed in japanese, but the staff also helped out in english, when I didn't understand something. The dinner was amazing and I loved that everyone had their private little space. I told them beforehand, that I couldn't eat meat, and while they don't offer a vegetarian menu, they accommodated me with some small substitutes and on top told me what contained meat. Very good service! The private bathtub on the balcony was the cherry on top.

“Highly recommend!!”
+We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tsuganoki ryokan. Our private onsen was a plus as we were able to view the beautiful trees in the distance and cool air blowing thru the slates. The host was very kind and friendly and our hostess, Ms. Nakamura, at our breakfast and dinner, was so sweet and joyful. The meals were fantastic as we were able to try so many different kinds of food so beautifully and creatively displayed. Thank you!! We highly recommend this place.
−There wasn't a single thing we didn't like.
