9.0+Lovely Team and owner, the breakfast and bar were very good. When I had troubles getting a Taxi, the owner drove me to my destination himself, that's a kind of service I rarely see in my own country.

5.0“Loved the bar and restaurant and friendly staff”
+Bar and restaurant areas were great friendly staff and good food and service, shower pressure was great .
−First impressions not great outside garden / patio area is a mess rotting tables some unsafe to sit on, busy road with garage opposite. My room needs attention to be honest it felt like staying in a bedsit, stained carpets, broken tap in bathroom, socket for kettle not working so had to plug in on floor on the other side of room items stored under bed(very weird) entrance door to all accommodation unsecured with note not to lock was a bit worrying Stayed at many places same price point that were at a much higher standard such a shame.

4.0“Disappointing and poor customer service”
+Location was good for what we needed. Housekeeping staff were friendly and polite. Bed was comfortable enough.
−On arrival I found out my room had been given to another member of our party by accident so this needed to be swapped. Was not a great start. This was then followed by the worst part - the evening meal: the menu was not clear and my mum ordered a burger (the menu layout looked like it was 3 separate burgers to pick from) so my mum ordered a simple burger and when it arrived it was smothered in burger sauce which she is allergic to. I immediately told a member of staff who came to our table to tell us that the kitchen would remake it but we would be charged for both burgers. I said this was very unfair considering the menu didn't show the burger sauce on the area my mum pointed to. The same member of staff returned saying "the manager has said it is stated on the menu. You never stated you had an allergy so you will have to pay for both burgers". We were never asked if anyone had allergies and the fact the manager didn't come and speak to us themselves says it all. £36 paid for one burger!! It was disgusting treatment/customer service and definitely left a sour taste in our mouths for the rest of the stay! The room was absolutely roasting during the day and freezing at night. Walls

+Parking was easy , Shower had good pressure , big room

2.0“Dark, creepy, unattended lodging, stinky sewage smell”
−The good: We did get an email through booking.com from The Sun Inn 2 days prior to arrival stating that their restaurant and bar is closed on Tuesday evenings at the moment, so there wouldn't be anyone onsite to check us in. The key would be left in the door. (Strange, but ok). The bad: No one on premises to check us in when we arrived or throughout our stay (one night, overnight)--no outside lighting (very dark). Name was on a paper on a downstairs door, skeleton key was left in our room door, which was up a flight of stairs and through another door down a corridor. Sewage smell so bad from bathroom plumbing, we kept door shut and barely used the bathroom. Gnats coming through open walls in bathroom around plumbing and in tile.

5.0“Reasonably priced compared to the alternatives, but not a particularly memorable place to stay”
+In mid-August the hotel prices in Edinburgh are insane and this hotel was the only reasonably priced place I could find for an overnight stop near the city. I arrived late but that was no problem for checking in (see below). Ample free car parking. The bathroom was good.
−There was no staff at the hotel at all when I arrived. They had emailed me beforehand about this. There was a note on the entrance about my room number and the room key was in the door. Very impersonal. There is a very steep and narrow staircase to get up to the rooms, not easy to navigate with heavy bags. The hotel is situated right on a busy main road. I had to close the wooden shutters to keep the traffic noise out, which wasn't great because the room was already rather stuffy. The view from the room was just the road and a huge railway viaduct. The lady at breakfast was rather dour, a smile seemed to be too much trouble. Breakfast is only a la carte, there was no buffet.

4.0“Nice staff. Good breakfast. But pricey rooms. Won’t return”
+The breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious. However, on the morning we left home we received an email saying that the bar and restaurant would be closed that evening. This was a little disappointing as I had spoken to the hotel when booking and was not informed of this. Plus point-the room was a good size and the bed was huge and very comfortable
−When we arrived there was a skeleton staff. We were told which were our rooms and left to find them. We ask on two occasions for additional pillows and did not receive them. We also asked for an additional sheet and did not receive this either. We ended up removing the quilt from its cover and folding it to use as pillows and used the quilt cover as a top sheet. The shower was fantastic but the bathroom really needs an extractor
