6.0“it was ok more suited to people just staying overnight mainly walkers and hikers”
+breakfast was excellent as was the chef but location was very misleading much too rural for us and the car park was non existent even though pictures on booking.com looked huge ?
−hospitality was very poor

10.0“All in all one of the nicest hotels we’ve stayed in, certainly in terms of value for money.”
+Our room was beautifully presented, a good size, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a lovely atmosphere in the bar. The food is WONDERFUL, well worth eating in. The location is brilliant, in the North York moors but close to the scenic coast. The railway station (which has only an occasional service) is right next door but didn’t impact on our stay. If we’d planned better we would have taken a train trip one day, perhaps next time.
−Nothing.

10.0“Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the place itself was comfortable with great food!”
+We loved our stay. The staff were amazing, the room was nice and the grounds were beautiful. Being able to park on site was great too. The food was brilliant with the chef saying at breakfast 'anything you want, I'll do'. So thank you for that. We had a main meal at the Postgate in the evening of our first night and it was reasonably priced for gorgeous food. We loved it.
−The bathroom could do with updating, just a bit tired looking. Some of the decor was oldy-worldy but I quite liked that as it was sort of comforting as you're staying in a traditional English countryside pub, not a new build. I think that's important to remember. There really are no negatives but if pushed, that's what I'd say.

10.0“What a gem of a find!”
+What a fabulous place to stay. We booked this at very short notice - the pub was excellent and we ate here on the first night - delicious - as were the amazing breakfasts! We absolutely loved our stay - super friendly staff and we would 100% recommend ! Right next to a very quiet train station with a quick 20 min ride into Whitby - perfect !!
−Nothing !

5.0“On balance will we return, I think not.”
+The comfortable bed. The one in house evening meal was very nice. The room had a TV, and tea making facilities. The bathroom had a shower over the bath, it does need a wall mounted grab rail to help one’s stability in climbing in or out.
−Criticism is sometimes necessary, but then the owners would be blind to assist in improving their establishment. The exterior is seriously in need of a makeover, hotels are judged on first impressions. They could start by getting rid of the abandoned car and the rubbish surrounding it. The wooden window frames in our room were rotten, the bathroom window was stuck in the open position. The “view” of an adjacent building was of its roof covered in moss.

10.0“We had a lovely time, everything was perfect. We look forward to staying at the Postgate next year.”
+Everything was excellent. The hotel and location were perfect. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food and service couldn’t have been better. We couldn’t have asked for more. We will definitely be booking for next year.
−There was nothing we didn’t like…..even the other visitors to The Postgate were lovely, very friendly. It is a beautiful part of Yorkshire.
