“I was warned about the loud noise (music and crowds). It was loud, but it didn't bother me at all.”
+Nice, cosy place. The staff were amazing, very helpful and accommodating. When asked, nothing was an issue, they helped me with everything I needed. Btw my bed was very comfortable!
−Cleanliness could do with a little improvement. I found someone else's hair stuck to the shower wall, so maybe closer inspections are in order.

“good enough for what we wanted”
+Location was excellent, the bedding was clean and comfortable
−It didn't both us because we just wanted a twin room for the night after a few beers, but, its not somewhere I would bring the wife, the downstairs pub is a hot spot for all the young ones in the area and had disco and noise from 9pm - 1am Friday and Saturday.

+The sheets and towels and bed was comfortable and clean.
−The breakfast was practically non-existent! one tiny box of cornflakes...no spoon to eat it with! No teaspoons a coffee machine but no glass jug or coffee 🤔 cheap white sliced loaf in fridge...no knives. A very dingy and unwelcoming room...so depressing I went to the local shop to buy my own crossoints and eat them in my bedroom. The sash window was broken..I wanted it open to get rid of the horrible damp smell coming from the bathroom I propped it open with my hairspray. No dressing table..I took a mirror off the wall and balanced it on the windowsill so I could get ready! No staff around to ask..just one man who was sitting at the bar and seemed a bit ' under the influence 'he gave me the key to the room and I wasn't even sure he worked there? I asked for a chair for the room as there wasn't one and he got me that. There was no one around when I arrived and was calling round the dark smelly pub to find someone to give me a key and check me in...15 mins....same when I left just left my room key behind an empty bar! Not one glass in the room not even for a toothbrush! 2 teacups..no saucers or teaspoons

+The staff were all very friendly especially the older man (Steve I think was his name).Our room wasn’t quite ready when we arrived but we were asked politely to wait at the bar with complimentary drinks which was lovely of them and our room was ready soon after :)
−We stayed on a Saturday as we had a near by party to attend at a golf club.We were told by the staff that when we returned later in the evening there would be a party which we were more than welcome to join in with,if it was before 1am.When we got back it was 12.50 and the “party” was rammed.It was lots of very young adults having a good night & the music was sooo loud.Luckily we aren’t party poopers and stayed to have a few drinks and went Upto bed at 1 when everyone was sent home at closing time.The noise did all Die down pretty much straight away and was able to go to bed.If you’re coming here expecting a quiet early night I would look for somewhere else.

“Would stay there again.”
+The Portcullis is a 14th century hotel located in a lovely village, plenty of pubs and shops around.
−Not really a dislike but the Portcullis was absolutely packed with youngsters enjoying themselves and loud music on Friday and Saturday nights. Didn’t bother me tho as the bed was so comfortable. No food served there but good foody pubs across the road.

−Dining room facilities poor, stayed two nights but only had clean cutlery etc for one night. No spoons in room again, strange that

+Location the only good thing going for it
−The room couldn't have been much closer to a dancefloor and DJ with no soundproofing. Suspect not an issue away from weekends but effectively a nightclub. Nothing about the room, the bed and bedding was comfortable. Yes it was relatively cheap but bring your earplugs.
