“Not worth the high price.”
+Walking distance from most attractions in Nikko
−Very expensive for what you get in return. The onsen does not allow even the smallest tattoos and they also do not allow to enter with the tattoo covered.

“Amazing traditional experience and a great location!”
+We had such a great stay at Nikko Senhime Monogatari! The location is fantastic in relation to the shrines and public transit. We stayed in a traditional tatami mat room and it was such a lovely experience. The breakfast and dinner service onsite were also such a unique experience. We got a full traditional experience 😊
−The only thing that could have been improved was cooler room temperatures. We were quite warm when we were in our room but things did cool down in the morning.

“Magical”
+This was one of my favorite stays on my trip. A real secret getaway. The hotel greeted me and made me feel right at home with some matcha and mochi once I arrived. The room was beautiful in the style of a traditional Japanese house with a change of a Haori or Yukata, an Onsen, and a traditional dinner and breakfast served to you. I woke up to sounds of the river and a mountain view. If you want to feel pampered and splurge a little bit, this is the booking to do on your Japan trip. Trust me, book it.
−Nothing.

“Beautiful and traditional”
+The room was beautiful and spacious, and very traditional, with tatami floors, a green tea set and kimonos you use while you're there. The staff were all incredibly nice and helpful. Our room had a huge window with a lovely view of the forest. The onsens were excellent with multiple tubs both inside and outside. The room also had a bathroom which included a bath and shower. The location was great, near the major shrines.

“A relaxing ryokan experience with amazing service and amenities.”
+I only stayed one night, but the staff was so welcoming, from helping me towel off from the rain on the way in to guiding me around for meal times! The food was excellent. I chose the Japanese style dinner and breakfast and both were a good a variety of high-quality options. The views of the mountains and the spacious room meant I was able to relax after a busy day of trains. The onsen was delightful and I could just gush about how relaxing it was to soak outside and listen to the rain. The location is perfect for those looking to explore the Rinno-ji/Toshogu world heritage area. It's also only a 20-30 minute walk to Tobu-Nikko and all kinds of shopping and dining.
−It can be a little confusing on how to walk to the hotel from train station. After you've crossed near Shinkyo Bridge, there's a gap in the sidewalk or you have to cross a busy intersection. As you get closer you may have to take a tunnel under the road and then walk down a bit of driveway. It's not terrible, but when you're lost and in the rain it's not the best.
