+A lovely large room and bed with plenty of tea/coffee and a small fridge. Friendly and helpful staff.
−The pub looked a little tired. No food on Sunday evening.

+The room was clean and had a very comfortable bed; it came with an ensuite bathroom (accessible via two steep stairs). I was only staying for two nights and I was occupied elsewhere on both so was unable to have dinner on either night as I had to leave around 6:00 PM and did not return until after 10:00 PM (and thus the kitchen was already closed). However, a very nice breakfast was cooked to order each morning with toast, tea/coffee and fruit juice. Cereals or muesli were also available, had I wanted them. I had lunch there on the second day and the food was very pleasant, with quite a varied menu. Other (I guess, regular) diners on nearby tables could be heard commenting to their companions that certain dishes were very good and should be tried. Always a good sign. I would definitely return if/when visiting the area, though.
−The room (at the front, overlooking the road) was looking a little tired (although it was clean and the bed was very comfortable). The first thing I had to do upon arrival was turn off the mini fridge at the wall as it was making such a racket. The two steep steps down to the bathroom could be a little tricky for elderly guests (although there was a handrail). There was no wifi that I was aware of; not a huge issue as I was only there for two nights and was out during the daytimes. Although there is a separate entrance at the rear of the hotel for late returning guests, the lighting inside is rather sketchy and there is a potentially dangerous step just inside the back door where the lighting is dim at best. The rear of the building looks rather grim upon arrival.

“Short break”
+Large bedroom and good food! Very quiet considering it was above the pub.
−The room was large but tired and I could only manage to get tepid water from the shower. Broken coffee maker. On leaving the bedroom to make your way to the bar, the lighting was very poor and with a few steps to navigate, its an accident waiting to happen

“A lovely stay, thank you. Should we need to stay in the area again, this would be our first choice.”
+Lovely, large room and top-class bed linen. Breakfast was amazing, staff were friendly and competent and evening dinner was great.
−Toilet seat was rather precarious - needs replacing with one which fits the toilet. Shower cubicle was not draining at all well and drain cover popped off and was floating on the water.

−all good.
