10.0“Incredible place to stay by hosts who make you feel like family!”
+Great hosts , we felt so cared for. The attention to detail was amazing. Breakfast was a major highlight, the food was incredible, as was the matcha. Great location , close to a lot of shrines, temples, and shops.

10.0“A wonderful time with a friendly host who went out of their way to made every day special.”
+A wonderful home made breakfast by the host. Different every day and if you want they were willing to adjust things to your taste. They also gave me several treats alongside the food, and a onigiri to help me through my day.
−I can't think of much at this time as to what I would want changed.

10.0“Absolutely wonderful! Will stay again next time I am in Kyoto!”
+Okami-san provided a warm and welcoming home to the both of us. She and her husband were wonderful company, great guides, and always helpful. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with great facilities. It was also well placed to explore the many shrines and temples of the city.

10.0“The warmest and homeliest welcome back”
+The hosts' hospitality during my stay last year was so memorable, I felt that I couldn't miss the chance to visit them again since I'm back in Kyoto again this year. Traveling on a solo trip can feel rather daunting, but the warmth and care shown by the hosts provided much comfort and assistance to my first experience of summer in Kyoto. The check-in process was smooth & welcoming. Before I was shown my room, I was provided with a complimentary yukata in the color & design of my choice for the duration of my stay, as well as a delicious drink & snack to ease the exhaustion of my commute all the way from Tokyo. I was led back to the same room as my previous stay, and it was as clean, cosy, and comfortable as I remembered. Each morning, the breakfast meals were abundant & delicious. This year, I had made a special request in advance for one of my breakfast to be made into a bento so that I may depart early in the morning to catch the Gion Matsuri parade. Okami-san went above & beyond, delivering the most exquisitely prepared breakfast provisions bag I have ever seen, stuffed full with onigiri, a carefully curated bento box, ice packs, utensils, a chilled bottle of tea, and even a fro
−Only that Okami-san's overwhelming generosity meant that the breakfast spread is always way too much food for my petite appetite's consumption 😆 I feel bad for the wasted food, but I will always try my best nonetheless.

10.0“Wonderful place, friendly owners, lovely city”
+The place is located in a quiet space away from the main roads, but just a 15 minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera. The room was clean. The breakfast was delicious every morning. The owner will adjust the meal based on your likes. The owners are very friendly. I highly recommend.
−The bathroom is shared, but this is common for ryokan style hotels. The facility is very clean. It's just that I like having time to do my own things.

10.0“Highly recommended for anyone seeking a genuine, respectful stay in Kyoto.”
+I liked absolutely everything about my stay. Okami and her husband are exceptional hosts,so kind and welcoming throughout the entire experience. It was a truly authentic experience to stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan. Okami prepared a fantastic breakfast, and even gave me snacks for the road, which I found incredibly thoughtful and cute. I highly recommend staying here in Kyoto if you’re looking for an authentic experience and are happy to respect their home and culture.

10.0“Incredible on all counts. Look no further for traditional Japanese experience in traditional home with 5 star hospitalit”
++ The hosts were incredibly kind, warm and caring. We felt like we were visiting our (newly found) Japanese grandparents. Every interaction felt very personal and genuine and the hosts devote a lot of time and effort to their guests. + The hosts were incredibly helpful too. They provided many helpful recommendations that made our Kyoto stay truly unforgettable! Every recommendation, from a traditional knife shop to a Kaiseki restaurant, were a highlight of our trip. We would not nearly have found as many enjoyable and authentic experiences without their help! Thank you!! + The breakfast is incredible. If you like Japanese food you are in for a treat, and make sure you are hungry! Okami-San would wake up a couple of hours before us to prepare an Obansai breakfast with many many small unique dishes. And it’s different every day! This was a culinary highlight of our trip. We stayed at two five star hotels after this and the breakfast was far from being comparable. It’s really THAT GOOOOOOD. And it’s all homemade too! Thank you Okami-San for the unforgettable experience. + Through this stay we felt like we were able to get a glimpse of the traditional Japanese lifestyle and customs. So
−Nothing. I would only emphasise for prospective guests: Before booking a stay, make sure you are comfortable staying in another person’s home, albeit with the best possible host experience you could think of.

9.0“A lovely stay in the heart of traditional Kyoto”
+I was really keen to do a traditional ryokan stay while in Kyoto and I’m so glad I chose Kamuroan. Once you take a bit of time to read about the guidance on how the stay differs from a more western style hotel I felt totally comfortable. As a solo traveller it was really nice to have that home feel and I slept incredibly well as the area is very quiet and peaceful. I was very well looked after by Okami-san and her partner and fed beautifully in the morning with a very generous spread. I really enjoyed chatting to Okami and it was great to try the traditional yakata kimono around the house. Thank you for having me ☺️

10.0“Highly recomend”
+The feeling that you are staying at a friend's house that happens to be a great cook. The care and effort that went in to the breakfast was incredible. The location was walking distance to many of the major sites.
−Having a shared bath is not for everyone, but we did not mind at all as it was part of the experience.

10.0“Heartfelt gratitude for an unforgettable stay”
+My 2 daughters wanted to leave a review on this stay: We visited at the end of April and Kamuroan was without a doubt, the highlight of our entire trip to Japan. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine care and it immediately put a smile on our faces. The ryokan is spotless, the baths are wonderful, and every detail feels thoughtful. The breakfasts deserve a special mention because the taste, the comfort, the variety and personal touch make them so special. We still think about them!! We were so well looked after that we didn't want to leave. We can’t express it with words so we recommend those who read this to go and experience it themselves! You'll only wish you had stayed longer. Not to mention the location was incredible as well. Thank you to Okami-san for making us feel so at home. We'll be back. ☺️
