“Tremendous value for money and I'll stay there again when next I visit Lerwick.”
+This place is a treasure. It's council-run, secure with key fob electronic access. Self-catering - but there's a very decent Council-run cafe just next door. If you want to cook, all the facilities are there. Washing and drying facilities for laundry for a longer stay. When you check out, you can leave your baggage securely with them. And all for only £50 per night (albeit this is outside the tourist season).
−Nothing from the property's point of view. It is at the top of a hill and the walk down to Commercial Street the main shopping street can be a bit steep in places. However this is no fault of the property.

+Islesburgh House Hostel is so much more than just a hostel: it makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Irwin, the house manager, welcomes you with typical British humour and the same genuine warmth and friendliness we encountered in so many locals across the Shetland Islands. We stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom, and it was perfect for us. The room was cosy and clean, with its own fridge and sink. The beautiful wooden bed even gave it a touch of luxury! We absolutely loved the communal spaces: the kitchen, recently renovated thanks to a generous donation from a long-time guest who sadly passed away; the dining room; and, of course, the games room, where we spent most of our last day. Guests are welcome to leave their luggage in the storage room and continue enjoying the hostel between checkout and their ferry departure. We were especially grateful for this option, as the weather wasn't exactly on our side! With its lovely pool table and a great collection of VHS tapes and DVDs, the games room was the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon. Sitting inside, watching the wind and rain through the big windows, we truly felt at home. We would definitely recomm

“Place is overall fantastic. Just need bigger comforters for single beds.”
+Loved my double bedded room for first 6 nights. No toilet but I knew that ahead of time . Ok.
−Final nt I moved to “ family room” - arranged ahead of lime. 6 bunk beds so can accommodate 12 people. My disappointment was width of beds annd especially width size of comforters. WAY TOO NARROW. Could not turn over without losing the covers. Awful.

“Very good value. Very clean. Big rooms. Excellent”
+There was no one here when I arrived. Sign says to call this number. I don’t have UK calling access. So I waited in lobby for someone else staying at hostel with a phone to come by and offer to call. Guess we just shouldn’t assume international guests can call.
−Pretty great. Not sure

+Great kitchen facilities, had a lounge and games room too. Tidy rooms
−Not necessarily a bad thing but showers are wee cubicles straight off the hallway rather than like a room with individual shower cubicals
