+Old house but well kept
−Stayed here one night and wouldn't book again. The hotel sits right on a busy main road, and the windows do almost nothing to block noise. Trucks roll by early in the morning and late at night, so sleep was rough. We asked to move and got a small quieter room, which helped. Management told us they'd refund $100 for the room downgrade and even texted us confirming it had been issued. The refund never showed up, and when we followed up, the owners denied ever promising it. We still have the text. The noise was bad enough, but being flat-out denied something they put in writing is what really soured the stay. This is the kind of independent hotel that makes me want to stick with the big chains, where at least there's someone to hold accountable.

“Hotel Laurance is a lovely boutique hotel near Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns.”

−I thought that there would be flavored coffees in the library in the morning. Didn't see any staff or coffee

+Great decor, spacious room, with good amenities. Very attractive historic building.
−The bedding was not hotel standard - sheets too thin/cheap and a comforter rather than a duvet, which leaves you wondering how many people have used that comforter before you. Also, the self-check-in - whilst it works, the hotel would benefit far more from being more welcoming, even having a breakfast service. It was also very noisy having a room at the front of the hotel - early road noise, train horns, police sirens. My daughter's room was not on the road side and she wasn't disturbed.

+This place is beautiful and immaculately clean. We had an amazing stay. The layout of the room (Shirling) was perfect.
−Seriously the only thing was lack of a full length mirror. There were plenty of places in the room where once could have been.

“Terrible location. On highway”
+Really loud because right on highway. You can’t walk anywhere because on a highway. Terrible location because of the noise and inability to walk anywhere. Really loud because right on highway. “Quaint but pack a cooler”
+We booked based on online pictures and reviews for our 30th anniversary. The hotel is quaint and decorated very nice. There are no 'extras" in staying here...nothing put out in the evenings (like cookies, water) nor in the mornings. There is a central Keurig coffee station and one in the room but no place to get bottled water, drinks, snacks or even an ice station. There's no "front desk" to talk with someone about things to do in the area, etc., all communication with management is done by text. I had reached out several days before we were to arrive to find out about getting the entry code for the building and was told that would be sent to me the morning of our arrival. I didn't receive that information until 2pm of day of arrival, after reaching back out for the information. We had booked one room online and found out by text at 5:09pm that the room we booked had issues and we were being placed in another room. The room we were moved to was very nice but it is on the main street and traffic was very loud all hours of the night. No one was in the hotel the first two nights we stayed there...never saw a soul. Even after seeing another vehicle parked on the third day, we still saw
