“The Perfect Hostel?”
+💜 In my opinion as a full-time nomad, this is the perfect hostel--and we have stayed in dozens of hostels around the globe. The staff is friendly, helpful, and personable. The common areas and patios are comfortable and clean, with large and small tables and chairs, sofas, several hammocks, a ping pong table and dart board, and a cute bar; along with quirky cool art and decor, murals, green plants, and several friendly resident animals. The location, a quick and easy two-minute walk from the center of the village, is ideal--quiet and peaceful at the edge of the jungle, with a spectacular view of the town, the bay, the ruins of the old Spanish fort, and the old church. From the patio, we frequently saw sloths, monkeys, toucans, and a capybara. The bed in our private room was comfortable. There is no A/C, but the fans blow strong. The showers are not hot, but why would you want a hot shower on the Caribbean coast, anyway? The cool water feels refreshing. The kitchen is well-equipped, with grocery stores nearby and plenty of restaurants and bakeries for when you don't want to cook. We originally booked this place for only two nights, but extended and stayed a total of nine nights. If
−Nothing, everything was good. 😊 I saw a negative review here from an American Karen, but I have no idea how she could have had a bad experience here. This place is great and the owners are wonderful human beings.

+The two women who run the hostel are capable, inclusive and caring. They helped me find my bearings and directed me around the area. They work hard to keep the hostel clean and everything in working order, and they were very helpful with any questions I had. For a good price, I was very comfortable here. Would recommend!

+It is a horrible hostel.
−I have been traveling the world for the past 30 years and have stayed in 100's of hostals but this was the worst experience thus far. I am glad at least I booked for one night only. The place is a total disgrace and a complete disrespect to all tourists that pass through. The dorm is in a dark dungeon and is a passage way for multiple rooms that share the same gross bathroom. The reality is nothing like the photos. The place is dirty. There are not steps to go to the upper bunker beds. The wifi worked only 5% of the time. They have no proper running water. You get some cold drips to take your shower. There are trash everywhere. They dont even own a washer dryer. I saw the owner hand-washing some sheets in the same gross shared bathroom and then hanging them outside around their car in the carport to dry. They have no AC and will give you a few fans. All tourists seemed unhappy and checked out earlier than expected. Two German girls decided to walk way and let their 2nd and 3rd day booking money go to waste. The common area was not bad but the sleeping arrangements and bathroom situation was awful. This hostel should be shut down honestly.

+La experiencia en el Hotel fue maravillosa, conecté con la naturaleza, los animales y las playas me encantaron, pero tuve la mala fortuna de coincidir en el hostal con una estadunidense con una muy mala actitud, todo lo criticaba de una forma destructiva, fue la última en llegar, justo el día que salíamos para la playa, actividad que habíamos planeado desde el día anterior, al final la incluimos en el Tour y nos cambió todo el recorrido sin avisarnos, además, hizo que nos devolvieramos antes de tiempo, en mis 37 años viajando por el mundo nunca me había cruzado con una viajera tan desagradable como ella, por fortuna solo se quedó un día y pudo disfrutar de nuevo del hostal y de la magia de Portobelo, muchas gracias chicos tienen un hostal increíble, los llevaré en mi corazón siempre y por supuesto volveré.
−lo unico que no me gustó, fue compartir con otra huesped que tenia malas actitudes y evidentemente, problemas personales que trasladaba al resto de los viajeros. unas genias las chicas del Hostel que manejaron lo mejor posible la situacion... . cosas que pasan en los viajes... pero a HOstal Portobelo, volveré seguro!!

“Buen ambiente”
+El personal del hostal es demasiado agradable, siempre dispuestos y hacen más amena la estadía. Lo cerca que está de todo en el mismo pueblo.
