5.0“Great Location but That's About It!”
+Location, location, location. Aside from the group of boisterous drunks that were in a heated argument just outside the hotel entrance upon our arrival and in the middle of the afternoon, the location was superb. Nice restaurants, pubs, shops, and historic sites abound are all very close.
−This is NOT a hotel like I've ever stayed in before. We arrived around 3:15'ish as I recall and could not get into the hotel. We knocked, knocked. A passerby tried to assist but to no avail. Finally, someone came to the door, let us in and reviewed the information for accessing the hotel. The hotel had sent us an email with checking in details but that did not go exactly as planned. There was no breakfast included (I thought there was but apparently, I was wrong), we never saw any hotel staff again after that brief meeting on the Friday when we checked in. Our room was very spacious and surprisingly clean and on the third floor (I think they considered it the 2nd but it was 3 levels above ground level. Go figure). The hotel does not have any parking but suggests a paid parking garage that's about a 5-minute walk. There is a small spot in front of the hotel that can be used for unloading but you can't stay there. That evening, we did visit the Hootenanny pub and enjoyed some Scottish folkish music, and the performer was quite good.

9.0+Room was lovely and clean and comfortable. Plenty of nice coffee and biscuits. I let myself into the room and out again so I didn't see any staff
−It was noisy in the bar but I had been warned in advance and once I got to sleep I slept well

9.0+Loved the location and historic building. How wonderful to just walk downstairs to a warm welcome, great food and even better music.
−Not a problem for us, but this property is best for able-bodied folks who can carry luggage upstairs and walk a bit for parking.

7.0“Lovey bedrooms, great food and great live music”
+Lovely rooms always clean and well presented. Food was good as always
−I ordered a pint of McEwans 80/ with dinner and it was served completely flat. I had a couple of mouthfuls and refused to drink it. The waitress did replace my drink with a fresh orange and lemonade however an experienced member of Barr staff would never had served a pint like that

5.0+The room itself had a great design that felt very cosy and inviting. It was spacious with a well-thought-out furniture layout, plenty of storage space, and a very comfortable bed. The hairdryer was actually good quality, and the hotel provided a generous supply of tea, coffee, and biscuits.
−Stylish room ruined by unbearable noise, poor facilities, and lack of service. Honestly, if the noise had been bearable, we would have turned a blind eye to the rest of the issues, as the other flaws were manageable on their own. However, combined with the lack of peace and quiet, the practicalities and service were a huge let-down. Loud music played constantly, making it impossible to relax or get a proper rest in the room. The bathroom radiator wasn't working. We reported this and were promised someone would look at it, but our request was completely ignored. The sink had a terribly mismatched kitchen tap fitted to it, which sprayed water all over the worktop and soaked the floor every time it was turned on. The Wi-Fi was horrible, we couldn't connect to it from our room at all. There is no lift on the premises, meaning we had to haul heavy luggage up to the second floor ourselves.

6.0“Adequate. Character pub.”
+Once you got there room was clean and the facilities good. Good bathroom and comfy bed.
−Although the bar itself was full of character with live Irish music, the stairway and inside of the bar itself was unkempt and dirty. Long way up with heavy suitcases. No lift.

9.0“Fun location!”
+Wonderful location! Was a little worried that the street noise and music from pub downstairs would be a problem. Not at all! Loved being able to have dinner and listen to the live music. Or go down in the evening and listen to a set. There are a LOT of stairs to climb but the room was awesome. It was so nice to have a desk at the window with a view of the River Ness. I was able to get caught up on my travel sketch journal with natural light! The only issue was that we ran out of toilet paper our last morning, not a spare roll to be found, and no one around to ask for more. Other than that, I highly recommend as a place stay!
−No extra toilet paper.
