9.0+Highfield is a wonderful little place within 10 minutes drive of Livingston. It has everything you need and it's very private with off-street parking
−You need a car really, although there is a train station only a short walk from the cottage, but Kirknewton is miles from anywhere to eat or drink out, or any attractions.

+A georgeous cottage in a beautiful, well-kept garden, owned by a very friendly couple. You cannot find a better place to enjoy the Scottish cottage feeling! Comfortable, heatable bed, fully equipped kitchen, tennis court! Train station and bus stop in 3 minutes far from the house, you can travel to the heart of Edinburgh in max. 35 minutes.

9.0“An excellent bolt hole - have been recommending it.”
+The location, solitude, view, cleanliness facilities
−Iron could do with renewal - had wedding guest clothes to press from suitcase - base of iron had residue on it and was a bit worse for wear. I used the tea towel as a pressing cloth to save damage to my clothes. Replacement TV remote required - battery hatch held on with tape and very intermittent at working.

3.0“Dated and uncomfortable”
+Only enjoyable part of the stay was the adjoining garden which we didn't get much use of, there was no outdoor seating
−The property was extremely uncomfortable. We chose it for the proximity to our friends wedding venue and turned down offers to stay with friends in city centre with hopes of making a nice weekend of it. Unfortunately the bed was rock solid (coming from a firm bed fan!) And I've never felt such lumpy old pillows. Truly the worst sleep I've ever had and my partner and I were both considering cancelling and staying with friends but persisted for the ease of proximity. The sofa in the living room was also difficult, completely saggy in the bottom with rock solid springs in the back preventing you from getting comfortable at all. The bath was not clean and had hairs all over the bath and walls There were ants crawling across the kitchen counters We have photographs and videos of both. Overall it felt like staying in a young students halls and just very grim and dirty sticky floors. We also had no idea or instruction that the cottage was attached to a bigger house. It was noted it was behind a bigger house in a text a few days prior but we didn't realise until some very loud banging and voices at half 10 at night the first night that there was an adjoining room. It gave us both quite a s

9.0+This is a wonderful little cottage in Kirknewton, right next to thew train station. It's warm, clean and comfortable, with fully equipped kitchen for making meals. Great location, private with off-street parking and somewhere to take the dog for a stroll in the morning/evening. I will definitely be back!
−Perhaps some coat hooks and a runner to wipe your feet as you come in the front door would be useful.

9.0+Excellent little cottage for visiting with a car or by train. Dog-friendly, warm, clean and comfortable with everything you need to cook too. Private off-road parking, lovely grounds and wheelchair accessible for day visiting.
−A dishwasher?? 😁 We tend not to use a washer/dryer so that space would be the perfect spot!
