+The hotel itself is good, and I have absolutely no complaints about the property or its facilities. Unfortunately, the customer service was extremely disappointing. The staff member who dealt with us had no idea how to treat customers properly. There was no smile, no friendliness, no courtesy, and no welcoming attitude whatsoever. The way we were treated made us feel completely unwelcome. It is a shame that a good hotel can be let down so badly by poor customer service. If this kind of attitude continues, I believe the hotel’s reputation and quality will suffer. Overall, I am very disappointed with the service. I would definitely not stay here again, and I would not recommend it to others unless the customer service improves significantly.

+Hotel is right by the train station so it is convenient to get to. It is also in a tall building so while there are some steps to climb, the end result is a great view.
−Room had no ventilation like a fan, so it was extremely stuffy. I had to open the window but this drew in mosquitoes so I could not sleep the whole night. Bathroom ceiling and shower curtain were mouldy. Already provided feedback to owner and he said he would rectify the problem during the off season. No kettle or water provided, so stock up from town.

“Very well located guesthouse but room need better maintenance”
+Very well located guesthouse near Haputale train station. Has excellent views, but to access the rooms, the stairs are open-air metal based, ie when it rained have to be careful. No kettle in the room but owner is nice enough to prepare a carafe of hot water in the morning for me.
−Facilities seem not very well maintained, eg the shower curtains are super mouldy and ragged even. There is no wifi in the room, and u have to come down to the sitting room

+Good location.
−This is 'not' what you will expect. There are spectacular views from the town, but not from this hotel. The only views from our room were a local billboard & phone antenna. Additionally, one wall of our room was a window looking into a communal seating area! Allowing anyone, & the local peaking tom lady across the way to sit & wait for us to get our kit off. Therefore any view soon disappears as curtains need to be closed. Internet, only on ground floor. A WiFi booster would solve this problem. However, we booked 2 nights & stayed 3. We did look elsewhere, but found nothing better for the price. So we persevered with 'The Bates' Motel.' Overall, room is adequate for the money & the hotel is a good central location.
