“A gem of a guesthouse that I always stay at.”
+This place is a quiet little gem of a guesthouse that has become my base of operations for a KZN holiday. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is provided (including filter coffee, which I was thrilled about). Small bottles of body wash, lotion and shampoo are provided, as is a large bottle of handwash for the basin.
−The only thing that might put people off is there is no direct sea view, but it's not the fault of the owners that the mall was built later. (I knew about this and it didn't bother me as the beach is a 3-minute walk away.) Wi-fi was good - only a bit spotty during a phone call, but worked fine the rest of the time.

“Property Maintenance and Renovations are key in The Hospitality Industry”
+The place is close to Oceans Mall and a walking distance to the beach
−The place is not well maintained. You can see the place used to be beautiful but not any more. My girls complained about the towels. I advised her to ask for better towels, she didn't bother to ask after seeing the ones that were on the laundry line, totally not good for humans. My cousin told me that she always pack towels in her luggage, now I understand why she is doing that. I always check reviews when I do my bookings. My daughter thought maybe the reviews were written by the owners. I was planning on going there in September but my daughter advised me not to even think about it. Supervision on cleaning staff should be taken seriously. They need training or they take guests for granted. Wifi not working. TV.... I don't know what to say. The lady I spoke to on the phone was friendly and kind hearted. Mam if you are the owner, do something if you are not talk to your boss. Property maintenance and renovations is key in the hospitality industry. The pictures must be old pictures.

“Our stay was comfortable and staff were great.”
+Comfortable rooms, clean and great bathroom. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Enjoyed the breakfast spread, great coffee. Aircon not working in my room but fan provided, so not an issue. Bed was very comfortable. Location worked well from our business trip requirements. Plenty of good restaurants within easy reach.
−Building needs some maintenance, starting to look a little tired. No complimentary soaps/shampoo in bathroom. No coffee or milk in my room either.

“I always enjoy my stay and will be returning.”
+The breakfast is lovely because there is such a lot to choose from. Cereals, fruit, yogurt, banana bread, cheese, jam, and they make your hot breakfast to order.
−The mall in front of the property makes noise 24/7, which is an annoyance. However, the property was there before the mall, and it's not their fault. I also knew about this before I booked, but I booked anyway because of the fantastic service.

“It was a great stay except for the odour and cleanliness”
+The staff was amazing, they were very helpful, patience and friendly. The breakfast was very good and there was a lovely spread to choose from Wifi was great Shower was excellent It was a peaceful and quiet place
−There was a terrible smell when we arrived which totally put me off, room was not clean as there was a dirty earbud was on the table and spider on the beddings) no milk in the fridge for coffee

+Close to the centre of Umhlanga and walking distance to the beach
−The road layout has changed so my maps took my through what’s now a taxi rank and a one way system (although cars seem to go in both directions). Probably more to do with my maps not being updated to get to the little lane next to Steers and Ocean Basket. Umhlanga’s changing all the time so just be aware if driving through the town for the 1st time or after a long time being away.
