“Friendly staff but not what expected”
+Very friendly staff and very understanding
−The room is a back room that is smaller than the picture. e-tv on the TV as one of the two channel options. Very very old school. I was told it is their budget room, but isn't stated as budget room on website. Parking is on the street; braai facility is a braai that is in its box if you request it, but no tongs or anything. Just really disappointed. I don't think the room should be listed on booking.com at all. We ended up leaving on the same day.

“Pleasant and central with fabulous host but accommodation old masquerading as vintage?”
+Centrally located and a short walk or drive to some nice restaurants . Host was extremely friendly and pleasant to deal with and made us feel welcome. Air conditioner was most welcoming in the 34deg weather. Huge shower , Extra large bed
−The buildings are old historical buildings but perhaps on the border of masquerading as vintage vs unmaintained. Small things like no cork screw (although when I did go and ask the host found one from his personal drawer) , No water bottle in the fridge for cold water , No milk for tea or coffee in the morning , a left over pie from previous guests still in the fridge . Extractor fan in bathroom doesnt look like its been cleaned in years. Pillows dated and flat and bedding mismatched brown and white. The patio table outside the cottage was an old board on a rusted steel stand. All small things but could be a very nice place with a little bit of maintenance and attention to detail. (PS hots did mention he had lost some staff over the passed few months)

“Tulbagh was beautiful. I won't recommend the accomomodation.”
+Bed was comfortable and bathroom was fine
−Pictures posted on booking.com is out of date. Eg. Beautiful photo of swimming pool. Looks terrible in real life. Not that I want to swim in July. The place is not in a good condition. Facilities to prepare a meal is non existent. Very small microwave and kettle. Not even a toaster. No sink, soap and cloths to wash cups, cutlery.. Had to wash my cup in the bathroom basin. Barbeque and hairdryer on the list, but where not there at arrival. Had to ask for it.

“Magni-ficent”
+Nick upgraded us to the Magnitude Suite (unprompted). Linah was marvellous when she checked us in. Beautiful, quiet, not very modern (perfect). We enjoyed the pool. The host supplied braai facilities on short notice. Mosquito net. Large shower with water that runs hot immediately. Comfortable layout and furniture. Water feature in the garden attracted some common birds so we could enjoy them and the sounds from the room. Sufficient doors and windows to ensure an effective draft. Lovely location. Amazing two nights' sleep.
−It would be nice if there were facilities for dirty dishes to be set aside or rinsed, especially fatty meal plates. This is a standard shortcoming of similar self-catering accommodations. We left ours outside to be cleared away the next day so they won't attract insects or cause an odour inside. Standard toiletries were not provided, possibly because of our super short-notice booking or shorter notice upgrade. We will stay there again.
