“Good apartment and location”
+Everything in the apartment worked well. Quiet location, a lot of good groceries shops and public transport stops around. Beautiful view from window
−1. A lot of mosquitos in the flat (the end of October). 2. To me, it looks as though the cleaning staff are paid with the leftovers that guests leave behind in the apartment upon departure.

“an ok stay”
+the area was quite calm, there were many markets and restaurants in a very short walking distance. the host answers very quickly to any question or doubt.
−it needs renovation, from the pictures looks more new, cleaned and cozy than we actually experienced it. it's just an ok value per money. ok for 1/2 nights

“Good deal for the people who are not staying at home”
+Very nice, authentic neighborhood. Some things on the walls and shelves make it feel cozy. A good price for central Istanbul. Close to vibrant food and antique streets.
−For a small stay, too little equipment and things. We need to buy toilet paper and everything else. Poor quality internet connection. The owners ask us to take care of things, but they do not even provide sponges to wash the dishes properly.

“Pleasant stay for seven days.”
+Quiet location but walking distance to all Balat has to offer. Comfortable place and attentive professional host.

“Warm and quirky neighbourhood”
+The neighbourhood is welcoming and full of small quirks and daily life. It is much calmer than the city centres, but still within reach by walking or easy public transport. However, I could roam here for more days. The flat was airy and the bed was very comfortable. A plus is the washing machine.
−Everything was good. There were two dirty glasses, but I just washed them.

“Nine historic days in Istanbul, from Fatih to Pierre Loti, b4 concluding with two days in Ankara.”
+The location was the best. Many historical places and restaurants with traditional breakfast, lunch & dinner offering food much lower prices than at tourist resorts. Bus and metro were very near. The host was great. They were always available and helped us in the best way. This was our best ever visit to any place.
−Microwave should have been in kitchen.

“Very uncomfortable bed, weak water pressure, and unhelpful and dismissive management”
+Structurally safe apartment, easy access to public transportation and shops.
−The bedroom had no window, resulting in poor ventilation. Water pressure was extremely weak. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, each spring could be felt as if they were poking through the cover; causing back and shoulder pain. Pillows were flat and unsupportive. The sofa and its mattress were also uncomfortable. Dishes were not properly cleaned before being stored. The AC was problematic: the remote initially did not work, and when we asked about it, the manager responded dismissively (“why would you want to use AC?”). We explained it was needed for ventilation due to the lack of a window. After replacing batteries, the unit still functioned poorly, and the filters were heavily clogged with dirt and what appeared to be mold, making it ineffective and concerning from a health perspective. Cleanliness was also an issue, there was visible dust and even hair on the floors upon arrival. Despite this, the property enforces a €30 cleaning fee, which felt unreasonable given the condition of the apartment and discouraged us from requesting cleaning during a long stay. Only three toilet paper rolls and three trash bags were provided for over two weeks for two adults, and requests for refil
