9.0+Wonderfully comfortable and well-appointed rooms, a great respite from the elements with pleasant views in better weather. Breakfast was hearty and enjoyable, and staff were very kind and attentive.
−Sound insulation was a little lacking; at times, could hear conversations in the room next door. Apart from that, a really ideal stay.

8.0+Dogs welcome but £35 per dog PER NIGHT. Nice hotel but this is the biggest dog fee I’ve ever encountered for a dog friendly hotel and it is very hidden in very small print in their pet policy FAQ.
−£35 per dog PER NIGHT so if you have 2 dogs it will be £70 per dog PER NIGHT meaning that if you stay 4 nights with 2 dogs it would be an extra £280. Despite this being a very nice hotel this is a very hidden fee so if I can, I really need to be sure it’s pointed out clearly somewhere.

5.0“Not the best value.”
+The room was clean. Plenty of towels and toiletries. Most staff were friendly (although others were a little abrupt).
−Food service in the bar / restaurant very slow. Not the bar tender's fault - he was on his own and there just wasn't enough staff. My hotel room was cold and draughty. The hotel door was rattling all night, making it difficult to sleep. For some unknown reason, the window in the hallway directly opposite my hotel room had been opened (probably during the night as I didn't realise until I left the room in the morning). Storm Boelo had been in full force and the outside of my hotel room door as well as the hall carpet was soaking wet. Reception staff at check in were abrupt. Reception staff at check out were nice enough.

8.0“Amazing stay and would book again”
+Absolutely stunning location , views, furniture was all so in keeping with- perfect. The staff were amazing x
−We had bid and won an upgraded rooms - but when checking in, we asked the man on reception to confirm it was an upgraded room. He said it was a “larger room” but we said yes but is it a king room what we paid for - confirmed it was. Went to the room, it was a disabled access room so every time you showered it was wet everywhere and had a weird chair in there. So as we wanted a perfect weekend as it was the first one away from our baby, my husband rang reception and explained this wasn’t the room we paid for however the reception gentleman was rude and became offended when we asked what the difference between king and double was. Anyway we went back to reception with all our bags - no further help, and wanting to start our weekend we just went back to our room. When checking out, the receptionist confirmed we were just in a double room and apologised profusely which we really appreciated!! But just put a bit of a downer of the start of the weekend xx

9.0“Good location”
+I have stayed here several times so know what to expect. The room was very comfortable, although with too much furniture for its size. A nice bathroom and an excellent breakfast.
−When I checked in I was asked for my credit card to guarantee any food or drink that I might have. This happened last time I stayed and the amount remained on my credit card for 1 month, which was irritating. This time I refused to hand over my credit card as I was only staying for one night and knew that I did not require anything. The receptionist insisted and I again refused, at this stage the other receptionist said that it did not matter, but it is not a very nice welcome to the hotel. On the way to Dornoch I had stayed at 2 other hotels and neither of them required a swipe of my credit card.

5.0“An extremely disappointing breakfast service in an otherwise lovely hotel.”
+The hotel was well presented and the location was ideal. The room was comfortable and the lounge and bar areas were excellent spaces to relax.
−Having to queue for 20 minutes or more to get into the dining room for breakfast is not what you expect from a hotel of this standing. Also, there were many tables where guests had left but dishes remained uncleared. We were eventually seated at a table which had been hurriedly reset - no cups, no side knife, no marmalade. The buffet and the cold table choices were limited. The food we had was fine but all in all the breakfast service was extremely poor. This prevailed for two mornings though I have to say the service improved somewhat on our third and final morning. It made for a poor start to the day.
