1.0“We never made it.”
+Our experience with Bowlish House was deeply disappointing and stressful. We booked a stay from 9th to 14th October 2026 well in advance, and the hotel even emailed us to confirm our arrival time. However, just two days before our holiday, they abruptly cancelled our reservation via Booking.com, leaving us stranded with almost no time to find alternative accommodation. Remarkably, despite claims of being closed, the hotel remained active and bookable on multiple travel websites. It was only after I manually intervened and contacted them that the listings were taken down. To make matters worse, our full payment was processed days prior to the cancellation. Booking.com has informed us that they cannot issue a refund until Bowlish House officially confirms we did not stay there. On the 22nd October 2026, 14 days after we were told our holiday was cancelled we received a full refund from Booking.com. Management claimed they instructed Booking.com to cancel all reservations weeks earlier, yet they never bothered to reach out to us directly. They have shown zero accountability, no interest in helping us recover our money, and a complete disregard for the massive inconvenience and distres
−On the 25th October 2026, I was required to formally, within 48 hours, to remove my Google and Booking.com reviews in their entirety. That's one way to ensure a good review.

3.0“Extremely disappointing, I will not be coming back, you should avoid this place.”
+The house is decorated in a quirky and interesting manner, and the welcome from the owner was warm. A complimentary drink during the stay was appreciated.
−The breakfast offering was extremely poor, I had to go out to get a decent breakfast. It was stated on the advert that there would be a continental breakfast, but ther was no toast, cheeses, meats, fruits, fresh tea and coffee. Instead there were various snack items in baskets and a couple of yoghurts in the fridge. There were no staff on hand at breakfast or at any other time throughout the day, and at one point I was left urgently needing a pen and could not get hold of anyone by phone or even calling outr through the house. Eventually I had to just search through random drawers to find a biro, which I did not want to do. A pen and paper is a basic addition to any room. Moving on to the room, this was in real need of maintenance and cleaning, particulraly in the bathroom where jets of water were blasting out of the electric shower box itself, the shower head mount fell of the wall as soon as you touched it, and the taps were obiusly not being cleaned properly or regularly as they had limescale build up. Also in the room, the metal headboard was not attached to the bed to any time you moved it clanked against the wall, and there was one windown which had to remain open constantly

4.0“Disappointed”
+The room was large and comfortable
−The photos on the website did not reflect the actual current condition of the facilities. We were given a very warm welcome by the owner, but that was the last we saw of her. All other communication was done via text. We did not see anyone else there. The breakfast was a help yourself continental breakfast and was poor with a thermos to provide a coffee or tea. The bread was not fresh. I think it was generally very expensive for what we got. One of the reasons we chose Bowlish House was because the photos looked so good, but it was not an accurate reflection of its current state and need to be updated.

9.0“Thank you for a lovely stay!”
+Loved the fact that the very friendly owners are environmentally and animal friendly. The rooms had plant milk as default, which is a nice change! The place has a very homely feel with a well stocked fridge and help-yourself breakfast, again with plenty of plant based and healthy options, including freshly picked blackberries.

8.0“Lovey house and Maryane was so nice.”
+Really nice grand house. Felt like you were in someone’s home.
−Some rooms were being renovated (but that’s just a big issue)

7.0“An enchanted house”
+The house has charm and flair, and the owners' love for the property is evident in many details. Breakfast on the first morning wasn't great (stale croissants and plastic-wrapped bread rolls). After we mentioned this, the breakfast improved significantly from the second day onwards (with fresh juices, croissants, and cheese). Marianne's generosity regarding the drinks was wonderful, and we gladly accepted it.
−However, the photos on Booking and the website show the house in a newer condition than it actually is. The location right next to the main road was convenient for transport, but very noisy.
