“It has so much potential but we were disappointed”
+We recently stayed in one of the shepherd’s huts (Elizabeth) on the Avington Park Estate and unfortunately, were disappointed with our experience. The evening before our stay, I received an email offering optional paid extras. As we were celebrating a birthday, I requested that the hot tub be pre-heated so we could use it after returning from dinner. I was told this would not be possible because an event was taking place on the estate, which was disappointing, as the hot tub was one of the main reasons I chose the shepherd’s hut. The hot tub took several hours to heat and never reached a temperature at which we could comfortably use it for any length of time. We also had to keep going outside to check that the fire was still burning, which made the experience feel more like a chore than a relaxing birthday treat. No fire gloves or suitable tools were provided to help with stoking the fire. The location of the hut is private and the surrounding area is quiet. However, there are no views of the lake and the hut is situated in an area that was very boggy and muddy. The hut itself is attractive and has clearly been thoughtfully designed, but it felt tired in places and could have been

“Good but could have been excellent”
+Location was excellent
−Log cabin was clean but no attention to detail; cobwebs in corners , dusty shelfs , broken lampshade, blind in bedroom.Whole estate was tired ; grass / weeds not cut , fishing lakes uncared for .Such a shame as excellent location.

“Nice cottage but totally deceptive listing.”
+If you’re looking for a cottage in the middle of nowhere then it’s nice.
−The photos on the website/listing are nothing like the experience offered. The 3 bedroom house shouldn’t be included in the offering as it’s not even in the estate grounds and you only have 3 hours per day to walk around the grounds and you need to message someone to ask permission to enter. The experience doesn’t feel very warm, especially for £500 per night. Rihanna (or the lady who greets you) was very lovely though. The dishwasher was left unloaded when we arrived and there were dead flowers in vases.
