“Disappointing stay- concerns around transparency.”
+Disappointing stay - concerns about transparency, comfort and hospitality Our experience at Windmill Cottage was disappointing, particularly given the price of the accommodation and the expectations set by the Booking.com listing. First impressions and accommodation The listing was misleading in our opinion. Windmill Cottage is a separate, substantial house, whereas the accommodation we stayed in is a purpose-built building situated literally on its driveway. Although the building itself was attractive and well maintained, this distinction was not clear from the outset. There were some positives: the bedding and towels were of good quality, the beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. However, there were several practical issues. The double bedroom on the first floor has a very low apex ceiling, which could be problematic for an average-height adult. Signs reminding guests to mind their heads would be helpful. The toilet roll holder was loose, the hot and cold taps were plumbed the wrong way round, and the toilet was awkward to use. Accessing the bathroom during the night was particularly challenging, especially with the bed positioned against the wall on one side.
−We could not find a thermostat or instructions for operating the heating. We were later told that the heating was controlled remotely using the Hive system and that the thermostat was positioned out of guests’ reach and out of sight on top of a kitchen cupboard. * We were told that the heating would come on at 4pm and switch off at 8pm, although it was later said that it would remain on until 10pm. However, it switched off at 8pm. * We have never previously stayed in accommodation where guests were unable to control the heating themselves. This significantly affected our comfort and enjoyment of the stay. * The property was expensive, and we were disappointed by the additional charges and conditions. A £200 damage deposit was requested after the stay had already been paid for, and use of the hot tub cost an additional £80. * We were given strict instructions to leave the property as we found it, empty the bins and recycle our rubbish. This was frustrating, particularly as the recycling bins in the owner’s driveway were already overflowing. * Overall, we felt more like paying lodgers than valued guests. * We would not recommend this property. “Perfect location for a birthday celebration”
+Property was immaculate ! Lovely to arrive to tea and cake . Beautifully decorated throughout with a lovely garden to sit in . Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Location was perfect and the hosts were very welcoming.

“Nice property, but privacy and comfort concerns”
+The location and the property was nice with everything needed. The owners supplied us with a care package which was a nice touch.
−The property is located on the same grounds as the owner, which made it difficult to fully relax. This wasn’t mentioned in the description, and had we known, we wouldn’t have booked it. Another issue was the heating. It was set on a timer for just 2 2x two hours per day which made it too cold for the majority of our stay, and even then it didn’t always work properly. We often had to message the owner to turn it on, which felt quite uncomfortable and inconvenient. Additionally, the number of CCTV cameras around the property felt excessive and intrusive, especially for a holiday that was meant to be relaxing.

“A cute home from home with easy access to lovely walks and day trips”
+A cute little cottage with everything folks need when away from home. The Garden at the back is adorable and if the weather had been better, and we weren't so busy exploring, we would have used it more and possibly the new Hot Tub and the BBQ. We loved seeing the windmill working.
−The lock/handle on the right side stable doors ( which I love BTW) can only work from the outside, so you have to open the upper door and reach outside to get out. The heating tended to cut out , but as soon as I messaged Debbie she got it to turn back on and then it was lovely and warm. The Shower in the down stairs bathroom is so powerful it knocks the Shower head of the rail and it sprays the whole room ( just a bit of clearing up required after we stopped laughing). the aerial to the tv needs some attention in the siting room . These days are all minor maintenance issues which Im sure will be seen to before next visitors arrive.
