−We couldn't check in early which was fine but also had to check out early because the driver had to be back to town sooner than anticipated. Didn't really get to stay for the whole time we booked.

“A wonderful house and location out in the wild with spectacular landmark views”
+The location of the house was extraordinarily with a spectacular view. The house can easily accommodate a small family and has both inside and outside resting- and eating facilities. Supply of electricity and water was constantly, the WiFi through Starlink well functioning. Valerio as acting host on site gives excellent service, and communication went well. Transport and transfers were arranged through him, with ‘the best car of the island ‘ ( a true statement). The owner communicated very well from another location, and we felt looked well after. As we already had done sightseeing on the island from another location, we chose to stay at the property and around. Wind and waves were our best companions throughout the nights. In daytime we received a freshly cooked fish lunch, prepared by professional cook Valerio. Otherwise we prepared our own meals. We can really recommend for a relaxing stay for a couple of days.

“A beautiful, once-in-a-lifetime adventure”
+The view is incredible and it’s very private. There are no other houses nearby. There is a close beach you can walk to. The private chef, Valerie, was amazing. The food he provided was delicious, and he was also very helpful for anything else we needed.
−The road to the house was very, very difficult because of the rain. We didn’t feel comfortable to drive our 4x4 down the road because of the condition, so we chose to walk most of the time. The solar panels also didn’t work because it was cloudy, so we didn’t have electricity for some days. We also had a problem one day with maggots falling from the ceiling and also the roof leaking during the night when it rained.

“My kind of paradise”
+This is the kind of place I always dreamed of visiting. A rustic house in the tropics with calm surroundings. It's tastefully decorated and overall tidy. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking. The view from the verandah is stupendous! If you like birds, you can see the majority of the Principe island endemics right from the porch and even catch a glimpse of Tropicbirds and Brown boobies flying by below. People who maintain the place took good care of us and communication with the owners (in Portugal) went smoothly through WhatsApp. The owners are clearly keen to make your stay a memorable one in a positive way and have addressed many of the complaints in previous reviews like adding a mosquito net and fixing the lock.
−While this really was a paradise for us, it might not be so for you. First, it's situated about 2 km downhill from the nearest village and you need to walk a couple of hundred meters uphill to even get a mobile phone signal. The road down requires a four wheel drive or a motorbike and might not be passable at all during the rainy season. This doesn't mean it's placed in a jungle though, the surroundings are well maintained farmland of mixed fruit tree plantations and there is another house being built just a few hundred meters above this one. People do pass by occasionally to go fishing on the rocky beach below (5-10min climbing along a steep hill). Second, the house only has solar power which is also used to pump the rain water collected for general use. The system didn't work optimally so there were times when we had neither water nor electricity available. The staff fixed it the best they could, but I don't know how the system works during the rainy season. Third, while the place is overall tidy and we had no issues whatsoever with rats mentioned in previous reviews, there were a lot of ants despite us doing our best to keep our food stuff in boxes. +Tudo impecável! Adorei a minha estadia na Roça Atalaia e recomendaria muito. A sua localização remota torna toda a estadia mais mágica. O Valério sempre prestável e muito simpático. Cozinhou para nós e mostrou-nos os melhores sítios da ilha. Se voltar novamente a Príncipe irei escolher a Roça Atalaia. Além disso, a roça era muito confortável, com uma internet excelente!!
−Apenas melhoria a luz da casa. Adicionaria um ponto de luz junto ao sofá e junto à cama. Também dou a sugestão de ser disponibilizado shampoo e gel de banho. Por vezes viajamos muitos dias e o que trazemos connosco pode não chegar pelo que seria bom ter essa opção.

+A vista para o mar é linda. O Valério, house manager, foi excepcional, 5 estrelas. Sempre disponível para nos ajudar. Recomendo alugar o carro da propriedade, visto que a estrada para a Roça é de dificil acesso e o Valério conhece bem a estrada e conduz excelentemente. Recomendo também o almoço e jantar, que é feito pelo Valério. Para além da simpatia, ele é um excelente cozinheiro. Foi a melhor parte da estadia!

“Ein einzigartiger Ort mitten im tropischen Paradies - wie aus einem Indiana-Jones-Film, mit einem fantastischen Rundumse”
+Es war ein echtes Vergnügen, an einem so besonderen Ort wie der Roça Atalaia zu sein. Die abgeschiedene Lage, das tropische Klima, die beeindruckende Landschaft und die liebevolle Einrichtung haben bei uns tatsächlich das Gefühl ausgelöst, mitten in einem Indiana-Jones-Film gelandet zu sein. Ein Ort, den man so schnell nicht vergisst. Der Kontakt mit dem Gastgeber Gilad war von Anfang an sehr angenehm und unkompliziert. Besonders hervorheben möchten wir aber den großartigen Rundumservice von Valerio. Valerio hat uns jederzeit zur Unterkunft gebracht oder abgeholt und wirklich jeden unserer Wünsche möglich gemacht. Er hat für uns sowohl einen Wanderführer als auch einen Touristenführer organisiert, uns unglaublich lecker bekocht und war jederzeit mit Rat und Antworten auf unsere Fragen zur Stelle. Ein ganz großes Dankeschön an dich, Valerio! Du hast unseren Aufenthalt zu etwas ganz Besonderem gemacht.
−Ehrlich gesagt fällt uns hier nicht wirklich etwas ein. Die abgeschiedene Lage ist sicherlich nicht für jeden geeignet, aber genau das hat für uns den besonderen Reiz dieses Ortes ausgemacht.
