“Be Fooled by Description”
+Apartment was spacious, comfortable bed and good WiFi.
−Property difficult to find. The young man (owner) met us and walked us to the apartment. He offered no help with the heavy luggage and left my husband to struggle down several slippery cobbled steps alone (75 steps). He couldn't speak English so all communication had to be written through Google translate There is only ONE very small bathroom despite two being mentioned in description. No aircon as stated. There is a damp smell on entering and there is a lot of humidity despite the dehumidifiers. There was no iron, no kettle, no microwave. I couldn't hang up any clothes as the wardrobe had no coat hangers and was full to the top with bedding. The shower leaks all over the floor despite doors being tightly closed. There is no outside furniture to sit on and the area outside the front door is unswept, dirty and full of weeds. Only provided with one key for the heavy wooden door outside, there was an inner door but no key provided. Beware of the walk down to the apartment as the ground is uneven and slippy.

“Amazing location, super helpful and attentive host”
+The location was amazing. Just off the main walking area in the Sassi, but quiet in the evenings. Lots of great restaurants and drink spots right near by. Osteria Pico, Pizzaria Cola Cola, and Birrificio 79 were our favorite nearby spots. The inside of the apartment was very spacious and made for a comfortable 3 night stay. We loved the lit up glassed over cistern inside. Our host was super responsive and helpful with recommendations.
−The last night there was an issue with one of the fan coils making a lot of noise. However, our host took care of it right away and shared some great Matera bread with us as an apology for our troubles. So while the noise was not great, the host did his very best to help us and fix it right away for future guests.

“Fantastic apartment in a great location.”
+The property is in a great location near the sassi and most other attractions. The views are amazing and there is a great supermarket and bars/ restaurants within 5 mina walk. It is very well equipped and even has a smart TV which allows you to use your netflix or amazon prime accounts.
−A very minor quibble is that it would be nice to have bedside lamps and a few more pillows/cushions.

“Exceptional”
+Very nicely decorated and newly renovated house in the middle of the old town (Sasso Barisano). Friendly and helpful owner. Car parking is paid separately in garages that are 5 - 15 minutes' walk away. They are cheaper further away. There are a lot of tourists in Matera, but the town is still charming and worth a stop at least for a few days.

−Właściciel trzymał nas przed wejściem do środka nie wiadomo czemu, czuliśmy się dziwnie. To samo przed wyjściem z mieszkania, miałam wrażenie że źle zasłane łóżko może być powodem do nie oddania kaucji.
