+I’m a self-driving tourist from China. I booked David’s cottage through Booking.com simply because it was conveniently located along our route and seemed like a good place to stop and rest for the night. However, after meeting David in person, staying in his cottage, carefully reading through the guestbook he keeps there, and going through all the reviews on Booking.com, I felt that I wanted to share my own personal experience and thoughts about this place. First of all, David’s cottage is located behind the house where he lives. We arrived a little after 7 PM, about an hour later than we had originally told him. There had been heavy rain the day before, and many roads were flooded, forcing us to take several detours. Despite our late arrival, David waited for us, welcomed us personally, and showed us around the cottage in great detail. To be fair, the comments on Booking.com aren’t wrong. The exterior of the cottage is still being renovated. To reach it, you need to walk along a pathway lined with David’s tools and building materials. “A comfy hideaway”
+Not what you'd expect from the outside, but a great, peaceful place to relax and escape from the city. I was very comfortable and happy to stay there. The apartment is self contained with just about everything you need for a weekend away. The host was wonderful and made me feel very welcome, and also gave me some local knowledge on places in the area to visit and where to eat.
−Overall I was extremely happy, but the bedroom was missing a curtain so the morning sun woke me up early. The apartment is getting a face lift bit by bit, so my suggestion to the Host in the meantime would be to maybe use one of the curtains from the hallway instead ? I also noted that there doesn't seem to be A/C, so I'd personally be hesitant to stay during summer, but there is a ceiling fan in main area. Also, just for people to be aware of, the apartment is up a flight of stairs. This is just nit-picking, as I 100% would (and no doubt will) be happy stay here again and again!

“Hill view junk yard rotten apartment”

−Everything. It was an obstacle course walking past rubbish and junk just to get to the back where the room was. 3 people booked in to stay only 1 towel given. The place place was in disrepair and a disgrace. My wife and I and 7 year old child chose to sleep in the car.. An absolute disgrace for exceptal accommodation .

“Disappointing”

−The description is not honestly represented in the ad. I will post a photo of the front of the accomodation so people know what to look for. There were hairs in the bathroom. Old bits of soap in the cupboard. Was not vacuumed. Curtain in only bedroom did not cover length of window. Quite a few steps to get inside the accomodation, think I counted 21 so if not good with steps dont bother.

+Nothing, it was disgusting
−We couldn't even enter the property as it was fenced off with the fence ziptied. There were holes in the walls which were rotting away, and a scaffold in place in some sort of random attempt to fix it. There were birds in the holes in the building and I think rodent droppings on the driveways which was strewn with rusted old car parts and junk. Never book this property!
