+Beautiful location and beautiful hiking. You can hike to the Sphinx without a permit (2-2.5h there and back hike). You are up in the mountains so expect the weather to be different/changing quickly from valley (it might get cold when it is cloudy). The gas braai works perfectly and is high-end.
−It didn't smell fresh (a bit moldy) upstairs so we didn't use that bed. There were rodenticide in the kitchen which made us feel like there were pests (even though we didn't see/hear anything). The firewood provided was a bit scarce; there is no central-heating and since it's in the mountains it might get a bit cold.

“It was one of the best places we have stayed in the Drakensburg. Beautiful gardens and the surrou”
−There was nothing too dislike. We had 5 wonderful nights at Protea cottage. A absolute gem so close too mountain. You can access hikes from the property. Beautiful surrounds. Cottage is well maintained with everything you need. Staff are friendly. Wellington even showed us the route how too get too the Fern trail. We will be back sooner than later. Thankyou Brett and Lyndsey for letting us spend time in your beautiful place.

“About as close to the mountain as you can get, whilst maintaining a very high level of comfort.”
+Stunning location. Hikes to Crystal Falls etc are accessible right from the property. Grounds are incredibly well-manicured and looked after. Unit is incredibly clean, and roomy for two people. Bed has a view of Cathkin peak directly. Fireplace is enclosed, so no smoke in the unit. Gas braai was a welcome surprise.
−Branches in front of the unit could be trimmed a bit, as they obstructed the view somewhat. Would have preferred a standalone shower in the bathroom, but I understand that space is a premium. Bath-shower worked fine. :)
